How to install MU Online on PC, Mac, Linux and mobile (step by step)

OpenMU does not need an installer: the game runs right in the browser. But you can install it as an app, with its own icon on the desktop or phone home screen, opening in full screen, with no address bar or tabs nearby. It is free, takes under a minute and installs no software on your system.

Before you start: create your free account at openmu.com.br/en/sign-up (new accounts get VIP as a gift). Then just follow the steps for your device.

Which browser to use

Device	Browser that installs the app
Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebook	Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge (both have the install button). On Mac, Safari 17+ also installs.
Android	Google Chrome (or Edge, Samsung Internet)
iPhone / iPad	Safari (the only one with the full option)

Firefox on desktop does not install sites as apps. There, play normally in a tab or use Chrome/Edge only to install.

On a computer (Windows, Linux and Chromebook)

1. Open Chrome or Edge and go to play.openmu.com.br.
2. Sign in with your account and wait for the game screen to load.
3. In the address bar, on the right, click the install icon (a monitor with a down arrow).
4. Click Install.
5. Done: the game opens in its own window and gets a desktop shortcut and a start menu entry.

Did the icon not show up? Open the browser menu:

• Chrome: menu ⋮ → Cast, save and share → Install page as app (in older versions: Install OpenMU).
• Edge: menu ⋯ → Apps → Install this site as an app.

Shortcut inside the game: with the game open, the options menu also has an Install app button (under Interface → Layout, right below "Full screen"). Once installed, it shows "App installed". Installing also makes the browser store more safely the game files you have already downloaded.

On Mac

With Chrome or Edge: same as the computer steps above. The app shows up in the Applications folder and in Launchpad.

With Safari (macOS Sonoma or newer):

1. Open play.openmu.com.br and sign in.
2. In the top menu, click File → Add to Dock.
3. Confirm the name OpenMU and click Add.

On Android

1. Open Chrome and go to play.openmu.com.br.
2. Sign in and wait for the game to load.
3. Tap the ⋮ menu (top right corner).
4. Tap Install app (or Add to Home screen).
5. Confirm with Install. The OpenMU icon appears on your home screen.

The game opens in landscape mode (phone on its side), with touch controls on screen: a move button, skill shortcuts and auto hunt.

On iPhone and iPad

On iPhone, installation only works through Safari.

1. Open Safari and go to play.openmu.com.br.
2. Tap the Share button (the square with an up arrow, in the middle of the bottom bar).
3. Scroll the list and tap Add to Home Screen.
4. Check the name OpenMU and tap Add.
5. Open the game from the new icon, without using Safari.

iPhone tip: Safari has no full screen inside the site. By installing from the Home Screen, the game opens without the browser bar, in landscape, and is much more comfortable to play.

After installing

• Signing in: open the OpenMU icon and sign in. The game stores files on the device, so from the second time it opens much faster.
• Updates: the game updates itself. If something new does not show up, close the app and open it again (sometimes twice).
• Uninstall: on a computer, right-click the app or use the ⋮ menu of the game window → Uninstall. On a phone, press and hold the icon and choose Remove.
• Your account does not change: it is the same account and password as the site. Installing or uninstalling does not delete any character.

I could not install: what to do

Problem	Solution
The install option does not appear	Update the browser and reload the page. On iPhone, confirm you are in Safari.
I opened the link inside Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp or Discord	Those apps open an in-app browser that cannot install. Tap ⋯ / Open in browser and open it in Chrome or Safari.
The game window is blank or outdated	Close the app and open it again. If it persists, in the browser use Ctrl + F5 (on Mac, Cmd + Shift + R).
I installed it and cannot find the icon	Search for OpenMU in the start menu (Windows), in Applications (Mac), in the app drawer (Android) or on the home screen (iPhone).
I prefer not to install	No problem: the game works the same straight in the browser tab. Just go to play.openmu.com.br.

Quick questions

Do I need to download any software? No. Installing as an app only creates a shortcut that opens the game in its own window.

Does it take much space? The game stores files in the browser to open fast. If you need to free space, uninstall the app or clear the site data in the browser settings.
